Game Preview: Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse

An unfamiliar name for the Nintendo consoles. Latest sequel to the series Fatal Frame, Fatal Frame 4 will be the first in this asian horror series to star on the newer generation consoles. In early 2008. Nintendo was revealed as the main role-playing developer rather than the usual sony or xbox franchise. Gameplay and graphcis will surely change in this upcoming sequel. The use of the Wiimote will allow the player to situate themselves as if he was the protagonist. Whereas gameplay will enhance this title's success, the graphics and quality are still in question...

Lets look at the plot summary:

"10 years ago, five girls were captured and held hostage by a criminal in a mysterious house on Rougetsu Island, located south of Honshu. They were eventually rescued by Chōshiro Kirishima, a detective pursuing the criminal. Several years after the incident, two of the girls, Marie Shinomiya and Tomoe Nanamura, died mysteriously. The three remaining girls, Ruka Minazuki, Misaki Asō and Madoka Tsukimori, all now 17 years old, return to the island to recover their lost memories and find out more about their kidnapping. Chōshiro follows the girls at the request of Ruka's mother, Sayaka Minazuki."

Not a bad punch to the series. The storyline is definitely heart-pumping, considering the fact that the whole entire series are based on true stories.

So whats unique with this game? Well for one, you dont literally have a weapon. Running around with ghosts chasing after you, your best companion is an old camera by the name of Obscura. And yes, you guessed it right. This camera is no ordinary camera; it has the power to dispel ghosts and creatures from the real world and release their angered souls. Camera angles are limited by more than half of the usual horror games.

According to Bozon from IGN:

"Think of it like Pokemon Snap, if Pikachu could corrupt your mind and send you directly to hell itself. "

Well said Bozon. This game of hell and havoc will leave you full of surprise in every corner.
Though the graphics seem a little overwhelming can the Wii live up to the Fatal Frame name? Or will it disappoint us at the last second? Find out for yourself. The game is expected to come out this late summer.
